Wellsville Police Chief Tim O’Grady confirmed Tuesday afternoon that officers are investigating the discovery of a body behind the area of 45 North Broad Street. Police were alerted at 2:02 p.m. O’Grady said the body was found near the railroad tracks and “no foul play is suspected.”

Trains haven’t passed by Wellsville in years. The victim hasn’t been identified and may not live in the Broad Street area. When asked, the police chief said “no…no, there is no foul play suspected.” The Allegany County Coroner was called to the scene. An autopsy either in Rochester or Olean will be performed.

O’Grady did confirm that the victim was a male and the police investigation is ongoing.
