Bolivar-Richburg School news, a “flasher” in Cuba, Wind energy meeting in Independence, Burglary suspect going to prison

At a recent meeting of the Bolivar-Richburg Board of Education, Wellsville resident Jessica Mitchell was appointed as the new School District Business Administrator. Mrs. Mitchell has a Bachelor of Science degree from Alfred State College’s Financial Services Management Program as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from Saint Bonaventure University. Additionally, she holds national recognition as a Certified Financial Planner and the New York State Department of Education certification as a School District Business Leader.

Mitchell comes to Bolival-Richburg after serving as a Senior Training Coordinator at Erie 1 BOCES.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She will commence her new responsibilities in mid-December.

On December 14th, 2021, at approximately 2:44PM, Cuba Police arrested Joseph J. Swatt (53) of Cuba. Swatt was arrested on charges of exposure of a person (Violation), public lewdness (Misdemeanor) and public lewdness 1st (Misdemeanor). Swatt was processed and released to appear at a later date. Swatt is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of Law.

A man accused of burglary and auto stripping was sentenced to 2 /3 to seven years in state prison today in Allegany County Court. Judge Thomas Brown handed down the sentence to 35-year-old Zeb Davis of Friendship, who is currently a county jail inmate. ADA Ian Jones said Davis knowingly entered a storage area on a residential property and removed tools on December 2, 2020. He was also assessed fines and surcharges.


The Independence Town Bard will be meeting at the Town Hall in Whitesville on Tuesday, for a Special Meeting at 5 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to address Local Law #2-2021 – Winder Energy Facilities and any year-end business. The Town Board will also meet on Monday January 3rd at 5 p.m. for the yearly organizational meeting.
