The Allegany County Department of Health (ACDOH) is sad to report to our residents and community that there have been two additional COVID-19 related deaths bringing our local total to 73. These deaths, a male age 61 and a male age 39 were due to complications or a consequence of COVID-19. We extend our deepest condolences to their families, and we ask that you respect the families’ privacy during this difficult time.

“We are at a critical point in the pandemic where our emergency service resources are strained and our hospitalizations and deaths continue to increase and have reached an all-time high,” stated Public Health Director Tyler Shaw. About 80 percent, or greater at times, of individuals hospitalized are unvaccinated with complications due to COVID-19. We make this plea to our residents that if you have not been vaccinated yet, please get vaccinated. COVID-19 has been a reality for the past two years and our friends, families, and neighbors have been effected by this virus. The vaccine has been shown to reduce the risk of hospitalizations and serious illness so it is important now more than ever to GET VACCINATED.

If you are looking for a vaccination location, go to www.alleganyco.com, see the Allegany County Department of Health Facebook page, visit www.vaccines.gov, or call the Allegany County Department of Health at (585) 268-9250 for more information.
