Today around 5pm in Letchworth State Park, New York State Park Police responded to a canine who fell 150 to 200 feet in the gorge. The three year old black lab, named Achilles, survived the fall and was stranded.

The Genesee High Angle Rope Rescue team geared up and located the dog. Sgt. Phil Nesbitt and Officer James Marzec, along with the help of many others, went over the gorge wall and down to safely get Achilles. The Canine was returned to the owner and taken to an emergency vet for treatment of a broken rear leg and other minor injuries.

Achilles was otherwise healthy. Good work to those involved!
