Top student musicians to perform at Houghton University this weekend

Wellsville’s Ashden Hyslip will perform “The Black Swan”

Itโ€™s that time of year again!!  The Allegany County Schools Music Association is PROUD to share that their ACSMA All-County Honors Festival #2 Concert will be held this Saturday, March 4th at Houghton University beginning at 2:00pm.  The Festival Co-Chairpersons are Rebekah Brennan and Tara Willgens, both music teachers at Belfast Central School.

Featured on the program will be:

The Senior High Honors Jazz Band, conducted by Mr. Alva Robbins.  Mr. Robbins is the Instrumental Teacher at Genesee Valley School.  Next on the program will be the Senior High Honors Chorus, conducted by Mr. Kevin Dibble.  Mr. Dibble is the Head of Choral Studies at Houghton University.  Completing the afternoons performances will be the Junior High Honors Band, under the direction of Mr. Jeff Joslyn.  Mr Joslyn is the Head of the Music Department at Wellsville Central Schools.

The Senior Going on in Music ACSMA Scholarship Winner, Ashden Hyslip, will perform her audition solo ~ The Black Swan by Menotti. She will be accompanied by Mrs. JoAnn Brown. Ashden is the daughter of Darcelle and Jeff Hyslip of Wellsville.  She will be pursuing a degree in Music Education at Buffalo State University in the fall.

The Junior High ACSMA Scholarship Winner, Mara Heaney, an eighth grade student at Fillmore Central, will be performing the French horn solo Vocalise by Rachmaninoff.  She will be accompanied by Dr. Dawn Bennett.  Mara is the daughter of Molly and Brendan Heaney.

Maggie McGraw, a freshman at Cuba-Rushford will be recognized with a certificate and $50 for her winning design of this yearโ€™s ACSMA All-County Honors Apparel. Maggie is the daughter of the daughter of Dan and Michelle McGraw.  

Tickets may be purchased at the door and are as follows:

Students / Seniors $3.00

Adults $4.00

Family: $10.00
