I. Mildred “Midge” SMITH, 89, of Scio, NY, died Tuesday, May 25, 2021 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, following a brief illness.  

Born May 28, 1931, in Scio, she was the daughter of William “Merle” and Gladys Ost Jackson.  On June 17, 1949, in Wellsville, she married Eugene L. “Bud” Smith, who predeceased her on October 12, 2012.  At age 16, she graduated from Scio High School.  She was a well-known seamstress, doing work for people as far as Florida.  She was employed by Kaiser Glove Company in Wellsville and Marion Rohr Silk Mill in Hornell.  Midge was a lifetime member of Scio United Methodist Church and the Scio Firemen’s Auxiliary.  

Surviving are:  a brother, Leslie Jackson, Sr. of Scio;  two sisters, Hazel Jones of Bradford, PA and Phyllis Jones of Auburn, KY;  many nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Lori Jackson and Christina Perry;  many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by four siblings, William Merle “Bill” Jackson, Jr., Clifford Eugene Jackson, Millard Daniel Jackson, Louise Schrlau;  three sisters-in-law, Angie Jackson, Mary Lou Jackson, and Viva Jackson;  and two brothers-in-law, Elmer Jones and Bill Jones.  

Friends may call at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Cremation, Crowell Chapel, 296 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY 14895 on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM and on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, with Funeral Services following at 12:00 Noon.  Rev. Dr. Stephen Crowell will officiate.  CDC and NYS Department of Health guidelines apply.  Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Scio.  

Memorials may be made to SPCA serving Allegany County.
