The task was organized by Mary Ann Newark of the Immaculate Conception School and a member of the Wellsville Elks; and Tim Colligan of the Wellsville Sons of the American Legion and Elks.

Various students and parents, members of Girl Scout Troop 40748 and Boy Scout Troop  and Pack 733; as well as several civic minded residents turned out to honor our deceased friends and family members.

The afternoon started with a brief prayer led by Mrs. Newark. Then Mr. Colligan explained a little about flag etiquette and how this project was started. Scout Leader Gary Pinney then described the meaning of coins that are often found resting on the grave marker of a deceased veteran.   In all 382 flags were placed at Sacred Heart. Cemeteries in most areas are decorated for the upcoming Memorial Day.
