A black bear with a NYS DEC tracking collar was located in a den near Wellsville, where she was nursing two new cubs. Researchers tranquilized momma bear for a wellness check, and then permanently removed her collar. While she was under sedation, some lucky humans were able to say hello to the cubs.
The mother bear was not harmed and professionally handled by specialists assisting the NYS DEC. Both cubs, named Chubly and Tubbs were about seven pounds and healthy. This little family will be left to slowly enter spring and enjoy the property where the rule is: NO BEAR HUNTING!!
