One Year Later, Where Were You?

For most people, the Covid-19 pandemic started one year ago this weekend. I think we all remember that Friday the 13th nightmare materializing for many. This guy was in the restaurant supply business and had just taken a whole load of fresh produce to Erie County. That delivery landed hours from an industry wide apocalypse which, looking back, vaporized a whole universe of culinary art. Buffalo’s food scene was in the midst of a golden age, internationally recognized as a food destination. When that world re-emerges is anyone’s guess.

Looking back over the year, I was in the words of John/Jack Sweeney, “I’m One of the Lucky Ones”. While my business was growing and planning for a great 2020, the business was not making any money. In fact I was considering investing thousands into a new vehicle and e-commerce website before the warm weather arrived. The pandemic changed all those plans and within a few days the whole family was under 14 day quarantine order at home due to an exposure at school.

At that point in the public health response, an official showed up everyday to check on us and ask all the questions asked today via app. Although no member of the household tested positive, we still had to follow protocol. Again, I got lucky because outside of my grocery store addiction, I prefer to stay at home with my animals, human and non-human.

Ok that is enough of my fairly boring story….. Send me your story and we will have regular posts marking the “One Year Later” weekend.
