Griggs holds opponents scoreless, Babbitt plays clutch defense
From Staff reports,
Varity Lady Lions coach Erica Aftuck has every reason to be happy after two shutout wins. The Lady Lions played two games in a row, on Wednesday night in Belfast and Thursday night in Scio.
Coach Aftuck gives a A for team effort:
“The entire team was part of both of those wins, Everyone stepped up and brought their A game! Lexi Griggs in goal was phenomenal with 2 shutouts!”
The Wellsville JV girls soccer team played Genesee Valley on Thursday, October 8, and ended the game in a 2-2 tie. Adriene Clark and Emma Washer each scored a goal for Wellsville. Even with only one substitute, the girls played hard and gave great effort throughout the game. The defense played one of its best games of the season, working well together and making important plays. The girls showed great teamwork and never gave up. Overall, Wellsville played a strong game and fought hard until the final whistle.
Coach Anthony Washer said, “GV/BC is always well coached and give us a tough game every time. I was super proud of the way we played having only 12 girls dressed for this one. We dug deep on defense all game long – Reese Babbitt made a fantastic play to stop a winning goal with less than a minute to go. We came away with a tie but it was well earned against a really good team.”
Coach Washer also said, “Emma and Adriene scored again for us. They each have had great seasons. Both have had hat tricks and are working hard to score goals or setup teammates for opportunities.”
