Free! Weekly event welcomes musicians, comedians, poets and performers of all ages every Wednesday night
From the WCAC,
For 20 years, Open Mic Night at the Wellsville Creative Arts Center has provided a unique opportunity for musicians, performers and community members to share their talents in a welcoming and creative atmosphere. Held every Wednesday evening, Open Mic is free and open to the public.
Open Mic Night brings together performers and audience members of all ages for an evening of live entertainment and great food from Scotty’s Common Table who runs the Cafe at the WCAC. Musicians, comedians, poets, storytellers and spoken-word performers are all welcome to take the stage.
“Open Mic has always been about giving local talent a place to share something they love,” said Andy Glanzman, founder of the WCAC. “For 20 years, we’ve watched both beginner and experienced performers enjoy their 15 minutes of fame on the Art Center stage with many going on to enjoy a professional career in music”.
Open Mic Night features a rotating lineup of guest hosts, helping each event take on its own personality while continuing a tradition that has become an important part of the Arts Center. Eric Stutt, who goes under the stage name Buckwheat is one of the Open Mic’s hosts. He says,” Open Mic has been a huge growing opportunity for me as both a performer and a host. I love Open Mic on Wednesday nights, there isn’t much that can get in the way of me going each week.”
Performers can sign up beginning at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday, with performances starting at 6:00 p.m. Each performer may share up to three songs or 15 minutes of stage time. There is no admission fee to attend or participate. Performers are encouraged to sign up early to get a spot.
“I love performing at the Wellsville Creative Art Center Open Mic. There’s a wide range of talent on display. There’s nothing else like it in our area” said Doogie Horner, a professional comedian who performs regularly.
Whether someone has been performing for decades, is working up the courage to take the stage for the first time, or simply wants to spend an evening enjoying local talent, Open Mic Night offers a place to connect. Community members are encouraged to come and enjoy the evening and support our local talent. Everyone is invited.
“As a performer, I found the audience to be some of the most accommodating and encouraging folks ever. Always warm, welcoming and attentive to the music,” says Devon Regan, a Wellsville resident and regular performer and audience member.
