Virgil K. NYE, 84, of Covington, PA, formerly of Genesee, died Monday, August 17, 2026 in his home. Born December 31, 1941, in Whitesville, NY, he was the son of Russell W. and Genevieve Bacon Nye.
On July 4, 1961, in Las Vegas, NV, he married Patricia D. Francis, who survives.
A 1960 graduate of Alfred-Almond High School, he served honorably with the U.S. Army from February 23, 1961 – February 23, 1963.
He was employed as a mechanic by Progressive Transportation in Lynwood, CA, Mack Trucks in Los Angeles, CA, Shay’s Transportation in Dansville, NY, Maple City Dodge in Hornell, NY, Conrail, and worked as an independent mechanic. Virgil was a self-employed truck driver 22 years, driving almost two million miles. He was a member of West Union Mennonite Church.
Surviving besides his wife, Pat, are: three children, Susan Renee (Duane) Potter of Covington, Steven (Espie) Nye of Andrews, SC, and Loren (Stephanie) Nye of Mt. Pocono; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Shirley Green of Alfred Station, Linda (Steve Harvey) Trescott of Rochester, NY, Ruth (Dave) Kimble of Bayard, NE, Claudene (Kirk) Munsell of Lake Placid, FL, and Debra (Joe) Price of Almond, NY; a brother, Zera James (Pam) Nye of Loveland, CO; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six siblings, Betty Lucille Allen, Benjamin Nye, William Nye, Dale Nye, Joann Burdick, and Janice Burdick.
Friends may call at West Union Mennonite Church, 1347 County Route 84, Rexville, NY on Monday, August 24, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 4:00 PM. Rev. Ed Babcock will officiate.
