The Andover Wetlands Annual Kids Fishing Contest celebrated its 35th anniversary with participants from Andover as well as Hamburg, Canisteo, Dansville, Ulysses, Pa; Little Genesee; Wellsville; Hornell; Alfred Station; Hilton; Almond, Cuba; , Wellsville, Belmont, Belfast, Friendship; Penn Yan; Livonia; Merrian; Canisius; Bath; Wayland; Friendship, Caledonia, Cameron Mills, Whitesville, Canaseraga, Cameron, Greenwood, and Jasper.
Special guests in attendance who assisted in handing out the trophies included,
Andover Mayor Tom Davis, Andover Town Supervisor Steve Martinelli along with Allegany County Legislator Gary Barnes, and retired Town Supervisor Gus Weber.
Trophies were awarded in the following categories: 5 & under: First Place: Magdalena Burnside of Ulysses, Pa with a 2.89 oz. 6 ½ inch Sunfish. Second Place: River Bowling of Hornell had a 2.47 oz. 6 1/4 inch Sunfish, Third Place: Oakley Potter of Hornell with a 2.26 oz. 6 1/4 inch Blue Gill.
Winners in the 6 – 8 age group were: First Place: Beau Bright of Wellsville had a 1.52 oz. 6 1/4 inch Perch and Second Place Chase Dixon of Andover with a .92 oz.
5 ½ inch Perch and Third Place Weston Carl of Andover with a .78 oz. 4 ½ inch Blue Gill.

In the 9-11 age group: First Place Iris Davis of Wellsville had a 13.52 oz. 12 inch Bullhead, Second Place: Lydia Shutt of Wellsville with a 11.57 oz. 11 1/2 inch Bullhead, and Third Place: Thomas Billings of Andover with a 2.4 oz. 6 inch Sunfish.
For the 12 – 15 age group: First Place; Jackson Dean of Andover with a 18 in
2 lb .76 oz Carp, Second Place: Giulian Lane of Merrian for a 10 in 5.96 oz. Bullhead, Third Place: James Hondzinski of Hamburg, for a 8.25 inch 5.4 oz Blue Gill.
Trophies were also presented for Largest Fish: Parker Seman of Andover for a 19 1/2 in 2 lb. 2.94 oz Carp, Smallest Fish: Huckslee Carl of Andover for a 4.25 in .62 oz Blue Gill. Most Fish: Sawyer Wlasniewski of Dansville with 40 fish. Other categories were Largest Bass – Oakley Faulkner of Wellsville for a 1 lb .27 oz 15 in. Bass, the Largest Carp – Ryker Seman of Andover for a 1 lb .95 oz 16 3/4 in Carp.
The annual Jess Present/Pat McGee Memorial Sportsmanship Award given in memory of the late Senators for their tireless work and dedication to the Andover Wetlands Project. Both the Senators were avid outdoors people and believed in the preservation of recreational habitat. This year’s winner, Lily Johnson of Cuba.
