On January 31st, the Wellsville Varsity Cheer team hosted its annual Spirit Spectacular Cheer Competition with 49 teams from around the area. There was almost 600 cheerleaders in attendance throughout the day.

The day mostly consists of modified, JV and Varsity school teams from Sections 3, 5 and 6. This year we also had programs from Sheriff’s Cheer Extreme out of Elmira, NY and Legendary Athletics out of Bradford, PA. who both had 4 teams a piece compete.

In the morning session, we crowned 4 Grand Champions of each divisions:

1. Modified Division- Canisteo Greenwood

2. All Star Division- Legendary AThletics Legacy

3. Recreational Division: Sheriff’s Extreme Venom

4. JV Division: Wayland Cohocton

In the Varsity Division we had 23 different teams compete. The Grand Champions of the Varsity division were Campbell Savona. They also the received “Best Jumps” award. Pioneer Varsity from section 6 received the “Dancing Queens” award with the best dance score and Andover-Whitesville received the “Most Spirited” award.

At the end of each division we do a “Jump Off” contest for individual cheerleaders to show case their best comps. All of the proceeds from this contest are going to two Wellsville families in need. “It is a great opportunity for us to give back to our community”

We are also blessed by others in the community, including the Andover Ambulance crew who were on site for any injuries or emergencies.

The modified, JV and Varsity cheer teams also each performed their routines as exhibition. While it can be very nerve racking to perform at your home comp, all three of our performances were great and scored well. Our Varsity team has had a lot of success this year and has won first place in each competition they have been to. Varsity is headed to Victor, NY this weekend to compete in the hardest comp of the season against 7 other teams.
