Fresh off the September 6th AOH Annual Park in the Park Fundraising Event, The local Allegany County Ancient Order of Hibernians continues their local support to eliminate and reduce food shortages in our County. Jim Campbell, Director of the Catholic Charities Wellsville Food Pantry contacted the local AOH Division this past week with an urgent request for help, as their food supplies have been reduced with far fewer food shipments coming from their local supplier coupled with increased local demand for food. Jim Campbell and his team at Catholic Charities are feeding close to 2500 people in Allegany County to try to reduce food hunger prevalent in Allegany County. “The AOH works hard to reduce hunger locally as our Irish Ancestors left Ireland in the 1840s due to the great potato famine so we do what we can to help locally” stated Dean.
“Our local AOH Division has been a major supporter for the local Wellsville Food Pantry and will continue to do so” says AOH President John Dean. AOH Members Brian Cannon (left) and Don Bo (Right) presented Jim Campbell (Center) with over $1,900 of local food card from local Grocery Stires that allow Jim to purchase cases of staple food to help the county residents in need. Dean also stated “We also put a friendly challenge out to all local service groups and organizations to help this great endeavor to reduce hunger in Allegany County. In addition to our food card donations, Member Don Bo has provided the local Food Pantry with regular truckload deliveries of his locally grown, corn, squash and vegetables to supplement their food supplies. Don actually had 2 visits to the food pantry to deliver food and gift cards from grocery stores the day the photo was taken”
