Letter to the Editor: Pardons don’t erase truth

Share:

Dear Editor,

Despite the politics surrounding the topic, despite the fervent denial by many, despite the desperate attempts to re-write history, the truth remains the same:

January 6th was an insurrection

The Capitol was attacked by people who refused to believe the truth about the outcome of the 2020 election

The people who encouraged, planned, and participated in the events of January 6th are insurrectionists, not patriots

January 6th was an attempted, and failed, coup by Donald Trump, his allies, and his supporters

The investigation, prosecution, and conviction of the participants was motivated by fact, not personal or political vendetta

The pardoning of people convicted of January 6th related crimes doesn’t nor will it ever erase any of these aforementioned facts. This will be borne out through history, the passage of time, and the cooling of sentiment. And it will hurt when those who have participated and cheered these actions realize the full measure of what they’ve done.
