Tuesday May 18th will be a busy day for school districts in Allegany County. Voters will head to the polls to decide proposed budgets, propositions and school board races. Here is a snapshot:
-Andover: The proposed budget is up some $388,000, totaling $9.6 million. The increase, according to the district website, is 4.18%. The website didn’t provide much additional public information.
-Bolivar-Richburg: Budget is $20.48 million, up less than .20%. There is no change in the proposed tax levy. Voters will also decide if the district should purchase three new buses and support the Genesee Library with $38,246. School board candidates are Erin Baldwin and Michelle Clark.
-Cuba-Rushford: The budget is $23.98 million, which is a 5.72% increase. There is a proposed $375 increase for the Rushford Free Library and no increase for the Cuba Circulating Library. Two bus purchases are planned. School Board candidates include Paul Young.
-Friendship Central: The proposed budget is $10.55 million, which is a decrease of 0.64%. One proposition calls for the creation of a $500,000 capital improvement reserve fund.
–Genesee-Valley: Total budget is $17.54 million, a 1.21% increase. Voters will also decide if they want to spend $106,000 for the Belmont and Angelica libraries and $128,500 for a new school bus. School board candidates are Timothy hand, Fred Grusendorf and Eric Knap.
–Scio: The proposed budget is $10,7 million, a 2.05$ decrease. The tax levy increase is zero. The district wants to purchase a new school bus for $128,000. It will provide the Scio Memorial Library with $26,215. David Roberts is running for the school board.
–Wellsville Central: The budget is down 2%, totaling $31.57 million. The district also wants to purchase new buses. School board candidates include Heather Gill, Bryan Gamache and Ronald “Keith” Loines. They are running unopposed.
–Whitesville: The budget is $6.4 million. The tax levy will decrease.
