A call at 5:35 a.m. today came in for a structure fire at 126 Scott Avenue in Wellsville with heavy smoke and possible entrapment with two patients outside with smoke inhalation.

In less than five minutes, Wellsville Volunteer Firefighters had a hose in the downstairs apartment and a Wellsville Village Police officer had a patient by the hand, keeping her calm as ambulances from the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corp arrived at the scene.

The smoke cleared and there did not appear to be fire damage to the apartment and the one patient was taken to Jones Memorial Hospital.

This is the second fire at 126 Scott Ave. in two weeks. The first fire was the result of a large plastic tote covering a floor heater. Firefighters were able to stop that at smoke.

This morning, firefighters said some of the apartments are “difficult to navigate through on foot” as they moved items around to make sure there was nothing else burning.

Firefighters from the Wellsville companies were assisted by the Scio and Willing Fire Departments as fire police were on the scene keeping the road clear. An ambulance from MTS was also at the scene.

A cause has not been determined.
