Fundraising by the legendary class of ’76 helps the Hart Comfort House, the David A. Howe, the Babcock Theatre
From the Wellsville High School Class of 1976
The kids who walked out of Wellsville High School as high school graduates fifty years ago haven’t forgotten their roots. To celebrate that milestone a group of alumni identified several local efforts to make donations. In 1976, the United States celebrated the bicentennial of the Declaration of Independence. The Apple Computer Company was established on April 1, 1976, by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne to sell the Apple I personal computer kit. In May, 1876: A Centennial Exhibition, a recreation of the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876, opened in the Arts and Industries Building. The National Air and Space Museum opened July 1, 1976. Two Viking Landers, launched in 1975, touched down on the surface of Mars in 1976. In November, Jimmy Carter defeated incumbent president Gerald Ford in the presidential election.
