Find out more about CHT and Therapist Allison Miller

From Jones Memorial,

Jones Memorial Hospital now offers certified hand therapy (CHT) in the rehabilitation services department. Allison Miller, OT, recently passed her CHT exam to become certified in hand and wrist therapies.

As a licensed Occupational Therapist and CHT, Alli now holds the highest level of specialization in treating conditions affecting the upper extremity. This includes the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand.

Why work with a CHT?

The hand and arm are incredibly complex structures made of dozens of tiny bones, delicate nerves, tendons, and blood vessels. Because of this intricate anatomy, injuries and conditions in the upper extremity require highly specialized care.

· Advanced Expertise: CHTs have a deep understanding of upper extremity surgical procedures, healing timelines, and custom orthotic fabrication.

· Better Outcomes: Choosing a CHT ensures that your rehabilitation is managed by a specialist, which can lead to faster recovery times, decreased pain, and a more complete return to normal daily activities.

How do the Jones Rehabilitation team and Orthopaedics work together to provide advanced care for hand and wrist?

Both Alli Miller, OT and Dr. Ali Mansour from the Orthopaedics team work collaboratively at JMH to provide exceptional care to all of our patients. Through a team based approach to care, both providers are able to offer comprehensive care to our hand and wrist patients – from diagnosis, to treatment options, through recovery and rehabilitation.

What conditions does a CHT treat?

CHTs treat a wide range of injuries, chronic conditions, and post-surgical patients, including:

· Trauma & Injuries: Fractures, dislocations, tendon tears, and ligament sprains.

· Nerve Conditions: Carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, and nerve compressions.

· Chronic Conditions: Arthritis (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid), tendonitis, and trigger finger.

· Post-Surgical Rehab: Recovery after joint replacements, tendon repairs, or tumor removals.

· Specialized Care: Custom splinting (orthotic fabrication) and scar management
