May 1st Public Rally at 4pm: A core principle behind all May Day events is a commitment to nonviolent action

From CALC,

Olean, NY – The Cattaraugus-Allegany Liberation Collective is calling on local residents to join us in a day of no work, no shopping, and no school, and to attend a public rally to be held at 4:00 PM at Lincoln Park in Olean.

Right now, working people are under attack in too many ways to count.  New and meaningless wars have become a regular occurrence. The cost of living is skyrocketing. Voting rights are under attack. ICE is arresting our neighbors, friends, and family. LGBTQ+ people are seeing their hardwon rights eroded every day. Systems designed to take care of ordinary people are being dismantled as the rich loot our entire economy and gain from our suffering.

There are simply too many issues at this point to organize an effective protest for every single one. However, all of these problems are closely related and share common causes. Although it is natural for each of us to think mostly about the things that directly affect us in particular, in order to win, we must stop thinking of these as separate problems, and work collectively to solve all of them.

Join us in opposing the billionaire agenda and making the following demands:

Stop the billionaire takeover and rampant corruption of the Trump administration, Protect and defend Medicaid, Social Security, and other programs working people rely on. Fully fund public schools, healthcare, and housing for all.

Stop the attacks on our communities, including policies targeting immigrants, people of color, Native people, people with disabilities, and those who identify as LGBTQ+.

A core principle behind all May Day events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
