Andover-Whitesville Juniors Vincent Joyce and Brody Vance were named Division Two Co-MVPs.

Andover-Whitesville finished the regular season 18-2, with their only Losses coming at the hands of Cuba-Rushford and Fillmore. A-W earned the No.1 seed in Class D Sectionals and won their first Sectional Championship in School history.

Vance averaged 29.9 Points per game to lead A-W while Joyce averaged 14.9 Points and 13.0 Rebounds per game in leading A-W to their best season in recent memory.

Vance surpassed 1,000 career points earlier this season and has 1,460 career points.

“Brody has been the best offensive player for us from day one.   His numbers have gone from great to unbelievable this season.  We don’t win without his scoring ability.  He can do anything he wants on the offensive end most nights.   He also has the ability to be a lock down perimeter defender, Andover-Whitesville Coach Jimmy Joyce said.

“Vinny Joyce is our glue guy.  He’s a walking double-double, He’s also our best defender and leading shot blocker.  Of all our guys, he has improved the most over the past 2-or-3 years. I expect that development to continue,” Joyce said.

Champions- Andover Whitesville

Senior Colton Calladine was also named an All-Star; he averaged 13.6 PPG. He recently surpassed 1,000 career points and has 1,111 career points.

“Colton was our senior leader. He’s literally done it all for us over the years.  On any given day he could lead us in scoring, rebounding, steals and assists.   He contributed in any way he could.  We were able to lighten the scoring load on Colt this year which allowed him to focus on other aspects of his game.  He does everything we ask on a daily basis,” Joyce Said

Hinsdale Senior Robert Childs and Houghton Senior Josh Davidson were both named All-Stars. Davidson averaged 21.1 PPG this season and scored 22 points in a first-round loss to Avoca-Prattsburgh Tuesday February 24th. Friendship-Scio Seniors Aiden Golden and Jeremiah Brown were both named D2 All-Stars. Golden averaged 13.9 PPG to lead the team in Scoring. Brown averaged 10.9 Points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.

“Aiden Golden was our best all-around player and leads us in Scoring, assists and Steals. He’s had a big jump from his junior year to now, He’s been very consistent for us, Aiden also guards the opponents top guard each night,” Friendship-Scio Coach Dillon McFall said.

“Jeremiah also improved quite a bit from his Junior to Senior year, being 6’5″ he provided a big presence in the post on the defensive end of the floor for us. His Offensive game has come a long way this year and he had some big games for us,” McFall said.

The No.5 Seed Friendship-Scio lost to No.4 Mt. Morris 54-41 on Friday February 27th in the Sectional Quarterfinal.

Andover-Whitesville 6’5″ Senior James Miller Young was also named an Allegany Division 2 All-Star.

“James has really come into his own this year. We all saw the potential in previous years, but his hard work is paying off.  His shot blocking and presence down low make a big difference for us,” Joyce said.

Although we don’t know yet how the season will end, this season has already been a memorable one for Joyce.

“Collecting 18 wins during the regular season with many of them coming against C and B school is something to be proud of.  We purposely schedule bigger schools when possible and it always benefits us in the end.  Even the losses to C-R and Fillmore were important. We haven’t had a competitive game versus either team in years and we played much better versus both teams this season. I don’t think we could have drawn up the regular season any better than how it went,” Joyce said.

Joyce saw something in this group a long time ago and was confident they would be successful when they got to this point in their high school careers.

Andover-Whitesville defeated Elba 58-53 to win the Class D Sectional Championship.

“This group is so special. From day one they have done everything us coaches asked of them dating back to our first practice as a newly formed travel team in the old small gym in Andover in 2019.  Most of that original group still remains and all of them, even those who aren’t on this year’s team have a hand in the success of this squad.  We accomplished the ultimate goal, something that hadn’t been done in Andover since 1955,” Joyce concluded.

The Steuben vs. Allegany Senior All-Star game was held Tuesday, March 17th at Cuba-Rushford.
