Wolf-Deiter Krahn, retired physician, son of German immigrants to speak at the Eldred WWII Museum

Friday March 13 free lecture, “Impressions of WWII”

From the Eldred WWII Museum,

Eldred, PA – Retired Family Physician, and Medical Director for WCA Hospital, Wolf-Dieter Krahn, will speak at the Museum on Friday, March 13th.

Krahn, will speak on March 13, 2026 at 6:00pm in the Museum’s Mitchell Paige Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Krahn’s speech is titled “Impressions of WWII,” a title referring to the lessons he and his grandson learned form a recent trip to Germany. He will discuss the places he visited and the reactions they had.  

Wolf-Deiter Krahn, was born in Washington, DC to German immigrants. He learned English in kindergarten, and remain fluent in German. He grew up in the Boston area. 

His father was drafted as a 14 year old to serve as a Luftwaffenhelfer in the defense of East Prussia, and ended up as a POW in a US camp in Czechoslovakia.  His mother was born in the Polish corridor and considered herself German. His parents married and then came to the USA in 1956.

He worked as a Family Physician in Jamestown NY from 1987 until 2021. He also served as Medical Director for WCA Hospital, later UPMC Chautauqua, from 2014-2021. He is married and resides in Jamestown, NY.

His interest in WW2 is personal as it greatly affected the lives of both of his parents, who went from upper middle class to nothing as refugees post-war, and then had to rebuild. He personally witnessed the un-insulated barracks his father lived in in Lübeck after the war, and experienced the horror of East Germany.
