“We expect the highest bill to be on your March 10, 2026 bill and we want to provide ample warning and time to prepare”
From the Village of Angelica
Like all other electric utilities throughout New York State, Angelica Electric customers can expect to see much higher-than-normal utility bills for January, February & March. This year, you may see double to triple your normal cost which is beyond our control. Contributing factors of electricity price increases include growing demand in the state, less electrical generators (supply), increased natural gas prices in January to generate power, record high costs of electricity purchased from the grid in January and February, transmission congestion, and extreme sustained cold weather. These are all variables which will generate the highest bills ever experienced by our customers. We expect the highest bill to be on your March 10, 2026 bill and we want to provide ample warning and time to prepare. Please be aware these are variable market rates and the rates will go down in Spring.
Angelica Electric is in the electric distribution business and has no part or control in the electric supply market or prices. The electric supply market is managed by New York State, and price is determined by market conditions which Angelica does not control. We do not generate power or manage transmission lines that deliver power to Angelica for distribution. All additional costs above and beyond our normal cost of power we sell are pass-through costs to our customers through our PPAC (Power) charge and are associated with all the variables previously stated to manage the power grid and provide power to our system. Angelica Electric, compared to other major utilities in the area, is still among the least expensive power in New York with an average cost of 1/3 to 1/2 that of other utilities.
We are aware of the financial burden this will place on everyone and we want you to know we are in this together. The Village Office cannot do anything about the rates and we know your bills are going to be abnormally high. We ask that you only contact the office if you need financial assistance to allow our staff to assist customers in need. Mayor Claypool will be addressing the community, on the radio (92.7 FM), on Tuesday, February 10th at 6:30pm. We will also be altering our disconnection procedures temporarily so that customers, who are having financial difficulties paying these bills do not have to worry about disconnection until summer. If you are having any financial difficulties paying your bill, we encourage you to seek emergency HEAP assistance with Allegany County or visit/call our office at 585-466-7431 to set up payment arrangements.
Looking towards the future, we encourage customers to find ways to lower consumption, seek alternative heat sources, not use plug-in electric heaters, add insulation to your home, replace windows and upgrade appliances to energy star ratings.
Thank you,
Angelica Electric
