Special presentation by Historian Craig Braack, birthday cake for all!
From the AHS,
The Almond Historical Society is celebrating a significant milestone: its 60th Anniversary! To recognize decades of dedicated service to local history, the community is invited to a special Open House at the historic 1830s Hagadorn House (7881 Main Street, Almond) on Sunday, November 16, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The afternoon is set to be a memorable occasion for reflecting on Almond’s rich heritage and the Society’s journey. At 3:00 p.m., a brief Annual Meeting will be held, including the election of officers.
Following the meeting, the main event will be a special 60th anniversary video presentation. This engaging video presentation, created by Todd Goho and narrated by retired Allegany County Historian and Almond native Craig Braack, chronicles the Society’s history from its founding in 1965 to the present day. Extensive research and writing of the script were conducted by Susan Steere and Donna B. Ryan, with Jan Leathersich searching for and selecting photographs to illustrate the story.
The film highlights key milestones, such as the granting of the NYS Education Department charter, the impact of John Reynolds’ 1962 publication of The Almond Story, and the pivotal moment when the Society received the Hagadorn House as a gift from the late Ken Hagadorn in 1971. It even touches on the Society’s notable involvement in the 1989 “Bump the Dump” fight.
Today, thanks to 60 years of community support, the Society proudly maintains the Hagadorn House, an outdoor pavilion, and the adjacent Office/Archives building, ensuring the preservation of Almond’s history for future generations.
Join us to celebrate this significant anniversary and the rich history of Almond! Birthday cake will be served following the presentation.
