Put a green light on your front porch and show Allegany County veterans your support
From Allegany County NY
In advance of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, Allegany County announced plans to illuminate the County’s Courthouse green from November 4-11 as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide effort uniting counties to support military veterans. The initiative, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), raises awareness around the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to assist veterans and their families.
Now in its fifth year, Operation Green Light is spearheaded by NACo and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, building upon successful efforts by the New York State Association of Counties and the NYS County Veteran Service Officers’ Association. In 2023 and 2024, over 450 counties participated in Operation Green Light.
Allegany County residents, businesses and community organizations are encouraged to participate in Operation Green Light by changing one light to a green bulb. By shining a green light, we let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported. The Allegany County Dwyer Program will be hosting events to distribute green LED light bulbs and raise program awareness at events surrounding the holiday for any resident, service member, or civilian.

Allegany County Board Chairman W. Brooke Harris stated, “Operation Green Light is a powerful reminder that our veterans deserve visible recognition and support. By shining a green light, we are honoring their service, raising awareness of their needs, and reaffirming our commitment to helping them thrive in the communities they defended.”
Counties and residents across the country are sharing their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
