Allegany County Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection on September 6

Registration is required and space is limited, see list of acceptable items

From Allegany County,

Since 2010, the Allegany County Solid Waste Department, with the help of all County Residents, has collected and safely disposed of more than 150,000 pounds of Household Hazardous Waste. Some of the most common items accepted include, pesticides and insecticides, fertilizers, pool chemicals, cleaning chemicals, and oil-based paints.

HHW accepted at this event include but not limited to:

Oil-based paints

Insecticides

Paint Thinners and related materials

Pool Chemicals

Aerosol Paint and Chemicals

Fluorescent bulbs

Lawn Chemicals

Solvents

Mercury (including thermostats and thermometers)

Drain Cleaners

Cleaning Products

Corrosives

Pesticides

Gasoline, kerosene, diesel

Hobby Chemicals

Corrosives

Acids

Driveway Sealer

  • Not Accepted:
  • Latex Paint- See NYS Paintcare for disposal options or call 585-268-7282
  • Smoke Detector – many manufacturers offer disposal programs
  • Agriculture Waste
  • Motor Oil- can be returned to local service stations
  • Household, non-rechargeable batteries- can be disposed of as household waste
  • Rechargeable Batteries- See NYSDEC Rechargeable Battery Recycling or call 585-268-7282 for disposal options.
  • Unwanted Medications- See PPAC Central for Pill Drop-off Information Take it to the Box Flyer
  • Hazardous wastes not generated in a household- call 585-268-7282 for disposal options.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., pre-registration is required, and space is limited.
