A foursome of Alfred State students, Mike Bupp, Brogan Cotter, Ryan Masi, and Hunter Trischler, have founded the 100th club or organization on campus, the Golf Club. ASC President Dr. Steve Mauro will serve as the advisor.
From Alfred State,
“Golf has been a hobby of mine for the last couple of years,” commented Cotter. After talking to Mike, Hunter, and Ryan, we thought it would be a great idea to propose the creation of a Golf Club on campus. Our college is experiencing an exciting period of growth, and we believe the timing was right to create an interactive opportunity for faculty and staff.”
The foursome met with Brooke Scianna, Coordinator of Campus Recreation, and Steven Edwards, Coordinator of Student Activities, to discuss how to create the club. The group was able to go through all the necessary steps of creating the new organization on campus and finalized it by having Dr. Mauro agree to be the advisor.
Dr. Mauro is excited to work with these students. “I enjoy getting on the course and look forward to playing the beautiful local courses with the students. I hope to see more students join us.”
Clubs at Alfred State range from performing arts, civic engagement, club sports and recreation, and Greek life. Club involvement and leadership roles are noticed by employers, as they seek well-rounded students who jump in and get involved.
The Office of Student Engagement regularly encourages students to start new clubs and organizations. Clubs and organizations are a connection point for students and faculty and staff outside of the classroom and offer a sense of belonging.
Cotter continued, “Our mission is to provide an opportunity for all students to play golf both recreationally and competitively. Golf is the ultimate networking sport.”
