FREE Concert featuring “feel good” music!!

From the David A. Howe Library,

Roger Pettengill will be sharing, “Songs and Smiles” at 7 p.m. April 24 in the Nancy Howe Auditorium. The program is free of charge, open to the public, and appropriate for music fans of all ages.

Pettengill, who turns 70 in a few months, has been performing locally since 2010 after overcoming stage fright. At 55, he’d decided to follow the advice of bestselling author and life coach John Acuff: “Be brave enough to be bad at something new.” Pettegill’s advice now that he’s been performing live for over 15 years: “It’s never too late to try something new.”

Over the years, Roger has put together a program using video to accompany his musical stylings on guitar and harmonica. He plays some original compositions, as well as covers of familiar artists, like John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Hank Williams, and Jimmy Buffett, and then creates short videos to accompany the music. The videos reflect the community in which Pettengill performs, so the Wellsville concert will feature videos filmed in Wellsville.

Roger uses his performances to stress the importance of having and sharing a smile and being kind to everyone you meet. He believes listening to music is a great way to relieve stress and that it helps take people’s minds off their day-to-day struggles. As he plays, he’ll share some smiles, familiar tunes, and a few corny jokes.

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered in Wyoming and Allegany counties by the Arts Council for Wyoming County.
