Local farmer will discuss Improving the land for future generations

By Mary Gardner-Ruch

On March 18th, Aleksandr (Sasha) Khodorkovskiy will give a presentation on healing creation through regenerative agriculture. Farmers, Sasha and his wife, Amanda, own and run Living Acres Farm in Alfred Station. For 15 years, their farm, an intense production market garden, and Community Supported Agriculture, CSA, have provided area residents with healthy, fresh food.

Amanda was instrumental in starting the Alfred Farmers Market. The pair sell their produce at the Alfred Market on Sundays from June through October. They also sell at the Olean Farmers Market on Saturdays.

Some local restaurants buy produce from Living Acres and feature recipes made with local ingredients.

The farm is a family affair, and their daughters, Aryanna and Natasha, work alongside their parents throughout the growing season. On Tuesdays, the girls help customers in the farm store when they come to pick up their CSA orders.

Sasha will touch on the current state of agriculture and share information about their farm. He will focus on the potential of regenerative agriculture to heal the land instead of destroying it. Allegany County soil can be challenging to work with. Sasha will teach how to leave the soil in better condition than you found it so future generations can eat.

The event will be held at Grace United Church, 289 North Main Street, Wellsville.

A light lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. The presentation will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Reservations are not required, and attendance is free. Donations are accepted.
