Wellsville’s independent hardware store and lumber yard has been serving the community for many years under owners Dan Peters and Butch Calcote. They’ve survived a pandemic and the major challenges since 2020 by offering great service and fair prices. In addition they started rewarding customers in 2022 with monthly drawings that anyone can enter, no purchase necessary.
Dozens of locals have won either the $100 Customer Appreciation prize or the Shop Local drawing for a gift certificate to other locally owned small businesses. The most recent winners are a testament to the loyalty of Fassett Lane customers, Christina Cook and her husband John opened one of the first accounts for contractors.

Diane Ostrander and her family have been shopping at Fassett Lane “for years and absolutely love it there because they have great customer service.”

Ostrander won the “shop local” drawing, which Dan and Butch started to champion other local small businesses. All Wellsville area small businesses are interconnected and rely on supporting each other. Every month Fassett draws a name to receive a gift certificate to places like L’Italia, Giant Food Mart, Chelsea’s Catering, and this month Tami’s Florist.

Christina, who with her husband have one of the most successful general contracting businesses in the area was thrilled to win the monthly $100 prize! She and her husband John are proud to be one of Fassett Lane’s first commercial accounts, “I think we are the second oldest, LC Whitford was the first to open an account many years ago.”
As a busy contractor, the Cook’s have a choice in where to do business but are still loyal Fassett Lane customers after all these years. Why do they keep going back to Fassett?
“Dan and Butch are a great team, very knowledgeable and friendly. The store has a larger selection both in stock and for special orders. The Do It Best website has thousands of items available and that makes a big difference.”
