WELLSVILLE, N.Y. – The Wellsville Board of Education unanimously voted before a full house at Tuesday night’s meeting on a resolution to appoint Aaron Wolfe of Olean as the district’s new superintendent. He will start that role on April 1.
Mr. Wolfe is currently serving as the superintendent in the Panama Central School District, a role he has held since 2022. Prior to that he was the Human Resources Director for the Olean City School District; elementary principal, high school principal and curriculum coordinator for the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School District, and worked in professional development at Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES.
“After an extensive and thorough search, we are confident that Aaron brings the leadership, experience and vision necessary to guide our district into the future,” said Jason Mattison, school board president.
The search for a new superintendent started in the fall with Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES working with the school board to find the perfect candidate. Dr. Colleen Taggerty has been serving as interim superintendent since Aug. 26.
“I am excited with the board’s choice for superintendent,” Dr. Taggerty said. “In the time I worked with Aaron he proved to be an engaging leader who could inspire and connect with students, staff and families. With a natural ability to listen and adapt, Aaron fostered an environment where all voices were valued, and every challenge was an opportunity for growth.”
Mr. Wolfe has been superintendent at the Panama Central School District since 2022, a role he said has been a “great experience,” but he is excited to start building relationships here in Wellsville.
“I am excited for this opportunity to work in Wellsville. Everyone I talk to tells me this is such a fantastic place. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone. Getting involved in the community and really spending time with teachers, staff and students.”
The first thing he wants to do is get to know the district and the community in the coming months. Then, once he gets started, his mission is to build relationships.
“That’s really important to me. I have a to-do list and building relationships is at the top of that list. Leading through relationships is really the crux of the work for me.”
Mr. Wolfe will begin his new role on April 1. Until that time, Dr. Taggerty will remain as interim superintendent.
