OP-ED: Consider supporting the Sun’s work and keep local news alive

For thirty-three cents a day you can chip in help local media thrive

From K. David Porter,

When I was a school administrator, one of the first things I did in the morning was to listen to the local news to help prepare me for the day.  It was important to know if there was an accident, police report, obituary or an event that would have an impact on students or staff that I needed to be concerned about.

This habit continued with me into retirement.  Instead of listening to the radio, I now turn to the Wellsville Sun for this information.  I have always been community minded, and Wellsville Sun helps keep me informed of what is going on.  As I am involved with several organizations as a volunteer, I continue to use the Wellsville Sun to promote events that benefit projects for the betterment of these organizations.

While perusing the “Sun” a month ago, I noticed that there was a new opportunity to help support this news source.  You may have noticed on their website where advertisements are posted that there is information about becoming a regular donor for as little as $5 a month.  I thought, “Why not support a local business that is providing news, community events, obituaries, and other important information by doing a monthly donation?” It is a simple and efficient way to help continue this news service.  If you stop to figure this out, for $5 a month or seventeen cents (.17) a day, you can be informed of local happenings. For $10 a month, you would be spending thirty-three cents (.33) a day.

So, please consider supporting our local news source and think about what its value is to you.
