Caroll Metz (Aiken) Han, 92, passed away on Dec. 2, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of intellectual curiosity, tireless advocacy for global peace, and a dedication to education. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., and raised in Belfast, N.Y., Caroll devoted her life to teaching and inspiring others. She began her career teaching world history at Cuba Central School, later continuing her work in Hawaii, where she also embraced Hawaiian history.

After retirement in 1998, she dedicated herself to writing, continuing to pen letters to the newspaper editor and embarking on a book about geopolitics. Caroll was an independent thinker, unafraid to question the status quo. She cared deeply about the environment, world peace, and the transformative power of education. Her commitment to these values left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Tony (Pan Woo) Han; daughters Linda (Rex) Judkins of Phoenix, Arizona; Lisa (Warren) Wong of Honolulu; Louise Ferro of Honolulu; and Lois Calhoun of Phoenix. She was a proud grandmother to Alia, Alix, Korey, Zara, and Jett. They carry forward her spirit of curiosity and care.

A private celebration of life was held at Oahu’s Valley of the Temples, where she was laid to rest.
