On November 21, 2024, at the Catherine Schuyler Chapter DAR’s final regular meeting of the year held at the Wellsville Country Club, Wellsville resident and entrepreneur Andrew Harris was awarded a DAR Media Award. The DAR Media Award can be presented annually by a Chapter to recognize a program or a member of one of the media industries for outstanding work that promotes the DAR missions of education, historic preservation, or patriotism.

Regent Deborah Snyder made the presentation, saying, “We are pleased to present our DAR Media award to Andrew Harris, whose mission to deliver hometown news and events through the Wellsville Sun on line newspaper, has helped fill the void for local news coverage created by the cessation of daily and weekly print newspapers.”
Earlier in the meeting Harris, who formed the Wellsville Sun during the pandemic and now also operates the Hornell Sun and Keuka Sun local news sites, spoke to the gathered membership about his background, mission to deliver honest local news, and the necessity to fact check everything in an AI world.
