Garbage bags filled with remains littered near “Lagoon area falls,” a popular recreation area

One of the common “side effects” of the annual deer hunting season is the discarded remains of dead whitetail deer. While many pride themselves in using all available meat, some kill for thrill or just the “backstraps.”
Those deprived souls who shoot the deer and only remove the choice cuts, aka the “tenderloins,” and toss the rest of the deer have struck again. Carcasses tend to be scattered in remote places, with only about half the edible meat gone to total waste. Over the bank on a back road is bad enough, but this is crossing a serious line.

These dead deer parts appear to be still “meat on the bone,” a total disregard for the life taken and potential nourishment provided. Second this dumping has occurred in a very public place, frequented by dog owners and families everyday, year round. Bags of dead animals like these are likely to be there in the first warm spring days when families start to be able to enjoy the river again.

The dog owner and local who found the mess didn’t mince words:
“Disgusting is the word. Myself and dozens of others walk this area with our dogs everyday. Little kids play here and swim in the summer. These people have no respect for others and I hope they can be at least ticketed!!”
Luckily the Town of Wellsville and NYS DEC has been alerted to the crime.
Cleanup and an investigation are underway, anyone with additional information should contact NYS Environmental Conservations Officer Dustin Oliver dustin.oliver@ny.dec.gov or call (607) 590-1135. Anonymous tips can always be left here and we will forward to the NYS DEC or local law enforcement.
Please report any illegal dumping in public areas.
