Alex Cole Next Up in Library Performance Series

From the David A. Howe Library,

The David A. Howe Library’s Autumn in the Auditorium series is well underway and has welcomed eager audiences to the Nancy Howe Auditorium. It began on September 26 with a presentation by professional living historian and first-person impressionist Ken Serfass, who came in character as General Ulysses S. Grant. Two weeks later, on October 11, Devi Performing Arts, a dance troupe from Buffalo that specializes in a unique blend of Indian and Western dance styles, put on a stellar performance that clearly connected with the audience.

Three exciting events remain in the series. On Thursday, October 24, the library welcomes Alex Cole, a talented local musician with 35 years of entertaining experience. Alex has performed at the library on multiple occasions, including as part of DAHPL’s 80th Annivervsary celebration in 2017. Library staff are always excited to highlight local talent and touched by the way the Wellsville community supports hometown performers.

Featuring both filmmaking and puppetry, the series continues with the New York State Puppet Festival Short Film Program, on Thursday, November 7, which features six short films using emerging and traditional puppetry techniques to tell immersive and engaging stories. Autumn in the Auditorium will wrap up with a return performance by Hungrytown, on Thursday, November 21, who last appeared in the NHA in early March 2020. Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson have crafted Hungrytown into a true artistic hybrid, able to hold Celtic and Americana, ballads and psychedelia, sunshine and darkness, joy and despair–not only within the same album, but within the same song.

As a bonus to the autumn series and an annual tradition in the making, the library will also be showing a cult-classic film, starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Meat Loaf, on Saturday, November 2 at 9 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to don costumes, bring props, and participate loudly. Book Cellars will also be participating in the experience with a lineup of snacks and beverages that go along with the film. Stop in there to enjoy some refreshments, support a local business, and get ready to for the hilarity to follow. For more details – including the movie title – visit the library’s website.
