Alfred State Fraternity and sorority members assist IMPACT
From Friends Improving Allegany County Trails(IMPACT)
On Saturday, September 21, thirty-eight members of the Alfred State College Hiking and Camping Club, fraternities Kappa Sigma Epsilon, Lamda Tau Phi and Gamma Theta Gamma, along with sorority members of Delta Chi Omega assisted IMPACT with a trail maintenance project on the nearby NYSDEC State Forest at Phillips Creek and Palmer’s Pond. IMPACT Board members Glenn Gebhard, Nicole Munkwitz, Ron Abraham and Gail Richardson served as trail crew leaders.
IMPACT maintains a Volunteer Steward Agreement with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation to keep the trails cleared of debris and obtain grants and donations to improve trail conditions for this nearby multi-use trail system on public lands. The purpose of the fall maintenance day is to prepare the trails for the winter cross country skiing season, and keep the trails open for hikers, horseback riders, cross country skiers and snowshoers.
Thanks to all who assist IMPACT with their efforts to maintain and improve high quality multi-use trails on public lands. IMPACT is currently raising funds for trail drainage improvements on Trail 3, which is one of the key cross country ski loop trails. If you would like more information on how you can join IMPACT and donate volunteer time and/or funds to this worthy endeavor, go to www.impactfriendsgroup.com or email impactfriendsgroup@gmail.com.
