It is with a heavy heart, Trump the Duck passed away overnight from what appears to be natural causes. He was found in his stall without any sign of fowl play or predation.
His life was pocked with violence, glorified with wild romance, and gritty survival. He was the member of a semi-free range flock of mixed ducks and chickens. The duck’s life started at the EIEIO Farm on the Vandermark Road and his owner gave he and his original flock to me, Andrew Harris in early 2022.
That flock of mixed ducks joined about two dozen chickens living the semi-free range life. Trump and his new larger flock lived a wild, noisy, life until disaster struck. A fisher cat attacked the flock on a cold winter morning and caused unspeakable loss of life. Trump survived.
He was left with a much smaller flock and his arch-enemy, another survivor of the vicious fisher cat, Brutus the Peking Duck. The ducking fights were intense, non-stop, like primal swordfighting. Then one day the fighting stopped and the two drakes became best pals, then lovers(yes Trump was bisexual,) and a bonded pair.
Sadly, Brutus passed away and left Trump to be the sole surviving duck along with a small flock of chickens. This was the start of a second life for this iridecent black domestic duck.
Trump fell in love with a wild duck in a nearby pond! He ran away from his barnyard pals, he courted her, fought off wild drakes, and then tended to the nest with her day and night. It is unknown if he has any prodginy from that two month marriage.
Unlike all of his unfortunate siblings, Trump survived multiple attacks by fisher cat, bald eagle, raccoon, and fox/coyote. He was not a duck to be plucked with, thus is nickname.
On same day as former President Trump survived an assassination attempt in Butler PA, so did this duck. A fox or coyote grabbed him and ran into the woods nearby. At that point a nasty struggle ensued between predator and prey. This duck was able to break free and escape the attacker, hide for 24 hours, and return to his flock despite his wounds. Upon return the duck had a trickle of blood flowing from his right ear, and he was given the nickname “Trump.” In an unexplainable irony, this duck passed away on the same day yet another assassin narrowly failed at taking the former President’s life.
He leaves behind his small flock of chickens and small flock of humans.
Donations in Trump’s memory should be directed to the SPCA Serving Allegany County.
Services have been ongoing, and as was his wish, Trump will be sent to a local taxidermist.
