The stage is set, literally, for a good old fashioned debate between candidates for the Mayor of the Village of Wellsville. The Wellsville Sun will be sponsoring this evening of policy discussion beginning at 7pm in the Nancy Howe Auditorium. John Anderson, who has moderated previous debates for this elected position, has agreed to sit between the two candidates and provide voters as much insight as possible. His format will allow candidates to introduce themselves before asking each to respond to a series of questions. Brief rebuttals will be allowed and both candidates will have the opportunity to make a closing statement to village voters.

Mayor Randy Shayler is on the ballot for this third term as village mayor on the Republican ticket. Shayler has debated in the Nancy Howe before, as the challenger, and shortly after defeated incumbent Mayor Judy Lynch. Next month Mayor Shayler will debate from the incumbents seat with a record of success and controversy which will surely be part of the discussion.

The challenger in this election is Marshall Green, a village resident who is new to politics but not local controversy. Green has multiple outstanding legal issues with local government, including the Village of Wellsville. Those issues have brought plenty of media attention to Green and motivated him to run for village mayor as an Independent candidate. The debate is certain to provide Green with an opportunity to make his case to voters.

This is public event but seating space maybe limited so the doors will open at 630pm.
