The Hornell Red Raiders were named the Craig Lawrence Memorial Tournament Champs at the Cohocton Soccer Complex Saturday night with a win over the Alfred-Almond Eagles.
The action started quickly with the Red Raiders making their mark just three minutes into the game with PJ Picco delivering a perfect ball to brother Marco, who slotted the ball into the net for the first goal. Hornell continued the momentum, scoring 6 goals in the first half of play and 7 total goals for the shutout win.
Marco Picco scored two goals on the night, including a header off a corner kick by brother, PJ. Demayne Dixon, Wyatt Evingham, Cody Cardamone, PJ Picco, & Gabriel Rasephei also scored for the Red Raiders.
PJ Picco led the Raiders with 3 assists on the night, followed by Carson Pollizi, who had 2 assists. Gabriel Rasephei and Marco Picco each tallied one assist in the win.
Goal Keeper, Alfie Whiteley, earned the shutout win, and Chris Ritenburg had one save on the night.
“I couldn’t be happier with the way the boys played tonight,” commented coach Jim Tobin. “The energy level was so high. We passed the ball nicely, and it was nice to see sophomore Carson Pollizi get two assists.”
The Hornell Red Raiders (2-0) host the Geneseo Blue Devils Monday night at 6:30pm at Maple City Park.
