Medieval times for the whole family!
From the Alfred Farmers Market
The Renaissance Faire returns to the Alfred Farmers Market this Sunday, August 25. This fun, family-friendly event starts at 11:00 in the morning and runs until 3:00 in the afternoon. Twenty-five farm and artisan vendors will be setting up their tents and selling the freshest local produce and beautiful craft goods. Two local food trucks – She Brews and the Old Mill Mobile – will be serving tasty festival foods and the bandstand will feature two bands – the Dirty Dregs (you can’t get more medieval than that name!) and Wetherbee & Hyland.

You can’t have a Renaissance Faire without costumes and knights, and the Alfred Farmers Market will have plenty of both. Re-enactors from the SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) will set up their tent on the center of the green and entertain the crowd with sword fighting displays. Many of the vendors will be in full costumes. And, thanks to the Old Mill Mobile, there will be turkey legs available for lunch, if you want to bring out your inner Henry VIII.
The AFM Activities Tent plans a great scavenger hunt/medieval test for the younger visitors. Children start their quest to become a true Renaissance person by completing a skills test at the tent, followed by a hunt through the market to achieve a few more goals, and then a visit with Madame Manager, who will award them for their fine work and give them a bag of treasures. Older children are encouraged to help the little ones with their tasks – a lesson in chivalry, a knightly virtue. Badger & Butterfly Studios will also be at the Faire, providing creative face-painting for all ages.
The AFM Renaissance Faire offers the returning students at Alfred University and SUNY Alfred a great introduction to life in Alfred, NY. It also affords the local folks a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon with the whole family having a fun time, listening to great music, eating delicious food, and supporting all the efforts of our local farmers and artisans. Huzzah!
