Read Demick’s letter to county GOP committee

By Andrew Harris

An Allegany County Legislator and longtime Angelica highway superintendent has asked fellow party members for support in the upcoming inter-party leadership election. Kevin “Fred” Demick, legislator from District 1 and the current Vice-Chairman of the Allegany County Legislature, intends to take the party in a new direction.

In a brief interview with Demick he explained that this election is not a public vote, only sitting members of the Allegany County Republican Committee will decide. The committee is comprised of party members from each district of the county. That vote is expected to be held as early as mid-September.

Should Demick be successful, and he believes he will be, his fellow Republicans should expect changes in how the county GOP operates. He pointed out that his decision to run for the Chairman’s seat comes from general discontent with current party leadership and direction. Demick emphasized the need for consensus building, better outreach, and more community service, “It is time for a change!”

Demick sent this letter to all committee members this week:

Dear Allegany County Republicans,

As many of you may know, I currently hold the position of the Male Vice Chairman of the Allegany County Republican Committee. After careful consideration I have decided to run for the position of Party Chairman.

I would like to see the Allegany County Republican Committee become more proactive and bring more young people into our party to become proud Republicans. We need to make more of an impact on our communities.

I have known and worked with many of you over the years and most of you are familiar with my leadership capabilities and I believe I have the ability to lead our County Republican Committee.

I am asking for your support to be the next Chairman of the Allegany County Republican Committee.

The Committee Secretary will call a meeting between September 17th and October 6th. To vote, you must be a current Republican Committee member and must have carried a petition or have been elected at the June 25th primary.

You must attend this meeting in order to vote.

Respectfully,

Kevin “Fred” Demick
