Belfast’s Aidan Heaney directs a cast of ten local talented performers

From the Town Theatre,

Short Tract, NY — The Town Theatre of Short Tract is excited to announce its summer 2024 production of “Godspell,” directed by Aidan Heaney.

“Godspell” reimagines the Gospel according to Matthew in a modern setting, following a tight-knit group of artists, led by Jesus, as they play games, tell stories, and sing songs in a creative exploration of the parables’ teachings. Featuring music by Stephen Schwartz, the composer of Broadway hits such as “Pippin” and “Wicked,” this production promises to be a dynamic and uplifting theatrical experience.

The cast of 10 hails from various towns in Allegany County, including Belfast, Fillmore, Houghton, and Friendship. Sean Mahon plays the role of Jesus, with Ben Lipscomb portraying John the Baptist and Judas. The ensemble includes Wybie Morrigan, Sebastian Morrigan, Alexander Burgett, Elsa Brennan, Victoria Tetta, Ella Austin, Sarah Morrigan, and Isabella Corwine.

Director Aidan Heaney, a Belfast native and rising senior in the BFA Acting program at SUNY Fredonia, brings her extensive experience to the production. Heaney has previously been involved in Town Theatre productions such as “Allegro,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Into the Woods.” She currently serves as the Executive Producer of the Fredonia Performing Arts Company.

Heaney commented, “I’m excited to use my skill set to collaborate with the talented artists in this community that I am fortunate enough to call home!”

“Godspell” will be performed on Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, at 7:00 p.m., with a matinee performance on Saturday, July 20, at 2:00 p.m. in the Fillmore Central School auditorium. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
