Donald L. Mulconery, 92, passed away on Tuesday (June 11, 2024) at Highland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Wellsville.
Mr. Mulconery was born on June 21, 1931 in Elmira to Lyle and Bessie (Cook) Mulconery. He was a 1950 graduate of Andover Central School and later served in the United States Air Force from 1951 – 1955. On July 30, 1955 at Andover United Methodist Church he married Doris Wintemberg, who predeceased him on October 13, 2014.
Don was a Draftsman for Dresser-Rand in Wellsville for 15 years before becoming a Technical Assistant in the drafting department for SUNY at Alfred on the Wellsville Campus for 21 years; retiring in 1989.
Don is survived by a son, Patrick Mulconery of Rochester; a daughter, Linda (Kenneth) Geer of Andover; a brother-in-law, Robert Born of Colo.; two grandchildren, Chad Geer of Wellsville and Kyle Geer of Andover; two nieces and many cousins.
Don loved to travel but always by roads. He and his wife Doris maintained a large map in their home with push pins noting the many places they traveled over the years. Myrtle Beach became an annual destination every winter. This also became a favorite wintertime vacation spot for the grandchildren which, to this day, is their favorite memory growing up. His favorite hobby was painting by numbers.
Don was a family man and took seriously his role as a provider. He was a faithful and enthusiastic attender of all his children and grandchildren sporting events. He coached Little League Baseball for many years.
In the community of Andover, Don was well liked and had a gentle persona. He is best remembered for handing out root beer barrels to people he met along the way. Don was a life-long member of the Andover American Legion and a charter member of the Andover Lions Club. He also served as a trustee, usher and Chairman of the Finance Committee of Andover United Methodist Church.
