A grateful county honors a dynamic woman
From Allegany County Chairman W. Brooke Harris,
The Allegany County Board of Legislators recently passed a resolution recognizing Carolyn Miller of Scio for service to her community and Allegany County.
Miller is a Cuba Central School graduate and has resided in Scio since 1974. After graduation from Fredonia State University, she began her career with Allegany County as an employee of the Public Defender’s Office. She later served as a secretary in the court system and finally for 19 years as Chief Clerk for the Family and Surrogate Courts.
Her professional affiliations include the Wellsville Chapter of the American Association of University Women. Under her leadership as President, the Chapter’s membership grew to over 100 members. She also acted as both Treasurer and Secretary of the Wellsville Business and Professional Women’s Club.
For 45 years, Miller has served on the Board of the Scio Memorial Library as President, Secretary, and Treasurer. During that time, she accumulated a decade of service on the Southern Tier Library System Board. Most recently, she was a member of the Scio Bicentennial Committee and helped ensure that the celebrations were an organizational and financial success.
Her county-wide volunteer work has included service with the Cornell Cooperative Extension Board of Directors and the Allegany County Area Foundation, with service as President of both organizations. For Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, Miller has contributed to both the Board of Directors and the Hospital Auxiliary Board.
In remarks following the recognition, Miller asked those assembled to continue support of both the Scio Memorial Library and the Allegany County Area Foundation, organizations that after 45 years continue to benefit from her commitment to their success.
