Investigators are seeking information from the public about a major theft on the Jones Road

Specialized investigation teams from the NYS DEC are looking into a major theft of standing timber in Allegany County. The theft occurred on the Jones Road in the Town of Andover NY, near popular destinations like Deer Run Campground, Kent Farms, and Kent Beer Company.
While no arrests have been made and officers have declined to comment on an ongoing investigation, a spokesperson released this statement to the Wellsville Sun today:
“DEC takes reports of trespass and theft of timber from private and public lands very seriously. DEC’s Division of Law Enforcement is currently investigating a timber theft on Jones Road in the Allegany County town of Andover. DEC will provide further information as it becomes available.
Timber theft is a crime and a concern for landowners and the forestry community. Theft of timber from forest lands can destroy generations of careful forest stewardship and cause irreparable environmental damage. “
