From Belfast Chief Jeffery Chamberlain,
On April 8th, 2024, a total eclipse will be present in our area, the best visibility and longest duration of totality will be North and East of the Fire District. Due to this once in a lifetime opportunity, it is suspected that this could cause traffic congestion and delays in Northern parts of Allegany County. Belfast Fire and EMS with MTS are taking actions to limit threats to safety and health by implementing standby crews to shorten response times to heavier trafficked areas. We hope our services will not be needed. However, we want our residents to know that we are making efforts to prepare for this event and provide the services our community deserves!
