ALMOND – Timothy P. Hyland, 68, passed away on Thursday (March 14, 2024) at Hart Comfort House of Allegany County in Wellsville following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Hyland was born in Wellsville on December 19, 1955 to Paul K. and Carol A. (Payne) Hyland. He was a 1975 graduate of Andover Central School and later served in the United States Army from 1975 – 1978. On November 14, 1987, he married Mary M. Van Oven, who survives.
Tim worked as a machinist for Dresser-Rand in Wellsville, retiring in 2021. He previously was a machinist for Broome Engineering, a subsidiary of Universal Instruments in Binghamton and a truck driver for Transtar in Wisconsin and Covered Wagon in Hornell.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, Tim is survived by four children, Mark (Tracey) Hyland of Tavares, Fla., Marcy (Todd) Braasch of Orlando, Fla., Christopher (Emma) Hyland of Portarlington, Australia and Nicholas Hyland of Alfred; three brothers, Terry (Linda) Hyland of Perry, John (Jeanne) Hyland of Andover and Rob (Amy) Hyland of Manassas, Va.; five grandchildren, Jacob, Miles, Joshua, Ryder and Austin; his Uncle Jerry Perry; his Aunt Gladys Payne; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tim, above everything else was a family man. He loved traveling with his wife on vacations to Florida, Arizona, Las Vegas and Atlantic City to name a few destinations. He enjoyed going to car shows and tractor shows with his son. Local drive-in theaters were a favorite family outing. Camping at Trout Run in Stannards and Beer Creek in Franklinville hold many special memories. More recently, RBI Sports Hub in Hornell provided a great place for Tim and his wife to shoot pool and play darts together.
Tim was a long time John Deere tractor enthusiast. He loved being around them, talking with people that owned them and driving them. One of his treasured possessions was a John Deere Model A Slant-Dash. Tim also enjoyed country music and 70’s and 80’s music. He especially enjoyed Bryan Adams and Zoar concerts.
Tim was a member of the Hornell VFW and the International Association of Machinists.
There will be a time of visitation on Monday (March 18) from 6-8 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. His brother, Terry Hyland will conduct a eulogy immediately following the visitation at 8:00 p.m. Burial with full military honors will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover.
