“…for having our farmers’ backs”
Dear Editor,
Sen. George Borrello has been a stalwart defender of New York agriculture and the family farms in his district. He has been the ranking member on the Senate Agriculture Committee, giving him a platform to work with lawmakers to advance the best interest of farmers.
This work has resulted in creating programs like Nourish NY that expands food access for all New Yorkers while increasing markets for farms. At the same time, he pushes back when bills and regulations threaten the progress of agriculture.

His opposition to the Birds and Bees Protection Act is a prime example. New York Farm Bureau also opposed the bill as it was written, and we appreciate Sen. Borrello’s support. He understands that removing safe risk management tools would result in greater pesticide use of more toxic chemicals as well as restrict seed options available to farms. This could drive up expenses further and make it even tougher to farm in New York State.
We thank Sen. Borrello for having our farmers’ backs, and we look forward to continuing to work with him on the Senate Agriculture Committee to support our family farms.
Sincerely,
Lavern Warriner
NYFB State Director and Allegany Co. Farm Bureau President
